The poignant and often hilarious exploits of “Dirty” Debbie, “Raggedy” Ann and “Bent” Ben, a group of young friends growing up in Stanley Place, is another of the new bold pilots commissioned by BBC Three for 2010.
Stanley Park demonstrates the channel’s continued support of original UK drama and commitment to experimentation. Sassy fashion designer Debbie lives with her gin-swigging, serial internet-dating Auntie Pat. Debbie’s outfits are as outrageous as the erotic fiction she writes and her confident air fuels her belief that no man can resist her charms.
Across the road from Debbie lives emo Ann, who is convinced that she was a Bohemian poet in a past life. Ann’s on-off romance with Lee Stevens, a typical “boy” who always seems to get things wrong, provides her with enough angst to keep her poetry flowing.
Ann’s fabulous, Beyonce-loving best friend Ben is always on hand to provide a shoulder to cry on and a constant source of advice, but Ben would do well to counsel himself occasionally.
As the residents of Stanley Park go about their everyday lives, Harry “the hottie” winks at Debbie as she walks home and sets in motion a chain of events that will change everything and everyone in the street forever.
Holliday Grainger plays Dirty Debbie, Jennie Jacques plays Raggedy Ann, Richard Southgate plays Bent Ben, Sharon Horgan plays Auntie Pat, Jack Cole plays Lee Stevens, Nick Blood plays Harry Stevens, Morwenna Banks plays Julie Stevens, David Kennedy plays Rob Stevens and Antonia Thomas plays Sadie.
Stanley Park premières online at bbc.co.uk/bbcthree on Thursday 3 June.
