Rage Against Simon Cowell

This weeks chart has been an epic battle. Rage Against The Machine have beaten the X Factor winner Joe McElderry to the Christmas number one spot. The band’s 1992 single ‘Killing In The Name’ sold over 500,000 copies this week after a Facebook campaign by fans raised against the Simon Cowell monopoly.

‘Killing In The Name’ has now become the UK’s first download-only Christmas number one and has broken the record for the biggest one-week download sales in British chart history.

Speaking to Scott Mills on the Radio 1 Chart Show after the announcement, Rage Front Man De La Rocha said: “We’re great. We’re very, very ecstatic and excited about the song reaching the number one spot and I just want to say we want to thank everyone for participating in this incredible, organic grassroots campaign.

“It’s more about the spontaneous action taken by young people in the UK to topple this very sterile pop monopoly. When young people decide to take action they can make what’s seemingly impossible possible.” He then went on to congratulate Simon Cowell and Joe on them being Number Two. Rage have also said they will be giving some of the money raised to homeless charity Shelter, whilst Joe’s single money will be going to Great Ormond St Hospital.

In at Number Three on the chart is last weeks Number One, Lady GaGa with Bad Romance. Hot on her heals is Peter Kay’s Children in Need medley at Number Four whilst Number Five See’s a new entry from 30H!3 featuring Katy Perry, its ‘Starstuckk’. Raising nine places on the chart, Robbie Williams song “You Know Me” is in at Number Six. We still are not sure why as to be honest he has not had a good single or album for years now. Another high raiser on the charts is Cheryl Cole with “3 words” at Number Seven. We have three words for her but non of them are repeatable.

Rihanna takes a blow to the face this week falling down 5 places on the chart with Russian Roulette, we’re sure Chris brown is pleased with that. Trailing Rihanna at Number 9 is a non mover in the form of Journey with Dont Stop Believing. The song which has found popularity from X Factor seems to still be enjoying much chart success was originally planned as the X Factor winners song before “The Climb” was picked. Finally in at Number Ten is Black Eyed Peas with Meet Me Halfway, a song which has fallen a massive six places.

The albums chart is not that much different from last week with a few albums rearranging themselves in the Top 10. Notable drops being from Take That, Queen and Rod Stewart.

Music news for you all now, Florence Welch has revealed that she was on the verge of going off the rails.
The Florence & The Machine star explained that breaking up with her boyfriend two years ago had made her “a bit loopy”, and said that she had been “spinning out of control”. She told The Observer that she once woke up covered in blue paint and dressed as Captain America, and only decided to change when her manager reminded her about her music career. All we can say is that must of been one hell of a party Florence.

Perez Hilton has said Rihanna has reportedly been spotted getting close to Kanye West. The popstar was seen “flirting outrageously” with the rapper, 32, at the Whisky Mist club in London last week. A source said: “When Kanye came in, he immediately gave her a huge hug and kiss, and sat down with her. The pair were chatting at length, ignoring everyone else.” Well lets face it, the worst he can do to her is interrupt her during an award speech or in bed when he declares Beyonce would be better.

Thats your blog for this Christmas. Have a good Xmas and a Great New Year from all at Flip!
