Matthew McConaughey has got the role of sexy, carefree bachelor perfected, and he gives his many admirers just want they want in this romantic comedy from director Mark Waters (MEAN GIRLS). McConaughey stars as Connor Mead, a man who arrives at his brother’s wedding only to be reminded of his own romantic past. Jennifer Garner (JUNO) co-stars as the ‘one who got away’.

DVD Release Date: 28 Sep 2009 Run Time: 96 minutes

Starring: Matthew Mcconaughey and Jenifer Garner.

Meet Connor Mead (Mcconaughey), a womanizing bachelor and a highly paid photographer. The reasons why most women go to bed with smiles but by morning cry a river. Connor is the type of guy who “loves em and leaves em” without even a flinch of emotion.

So when he meets Jenny (Garner) he lets her in totally and woos her until they finally make love. Jenny manages to persuade Connor into staying with her but ultimately he realises that he is ultimately spooning for emotions, something which his uncle Wayne told him to avoid at all costs, consequently leaving Jenny to wake up in the morning by herself.

A few years have passed by and both Connor and Jenny have moved on. It’s not until Connor’s younger brother gets married that the pair meet up again. Connor is still up to his flirtatious ways many of which include flirting with his brothers soon to be mother – in – law.

Having had a lot of alcohol to drink, Connor is visited by his Uncle Wayne in the bathroom .He tells Connor that tonight he will be visited by three ghosts; ghosts of girlfriends past, present and future. He explains to him that whilst his teachings do offer lust without strings attached and quenches most desires, ultimately does leaves a man empty and lonely. So then begins Connors journey towards a new life. Each of the ghosts visit him in turn and show him the error of his ways which ultimately effects the way Connor responds to the problems he has created in the present.

The film lacks depth in its plot and does not have enough substance. Guys, if you want to see girls in nothing but lingerie then this is the film for you. It is very difficult to classify this film as a romantic comedy because there are not enough of the two genres. This film lacks spice needed and even the on screen chemistry of the leading pair seems bland and not up to the mark. Whilst there are a few sub plots to help deviate from the main plot, most of the supporting cast try to offer something to the film but to no avail.

Overall, this film although this film was very highly recommended by many cinema fanatics, I see nothing which would make me watch this film again. From its shaky start to its predictable ending Ghosts of Girlfriends past is a BIG letdown.

My Rating : 2 / 5
