BBC One spy drama Spooks is back for an eighth series of 8 episodes next Wednesday (4/11/09) and we here at Flip! cant wait. So we give you the low down on what’s set to happen and a quick reminder of the events of last series.
Series 7 of Spooks was full of twists and turns. We saw the appointment of ice cold Ros Myers to Head of Section D and the release of Lucas North after eight years in a Russian prison. The Spooks team and us as an audience was forced to quickly adapt to their new team following the death of Adam Carter, but there was no time to mourn their colleague as the Russians descended on London and a mole within Section D was discovered. The mole happened to be Connie James, A close friend to the big boss Harry Pearce. In the last episode of the series we was kept on the end of our seat as the Russians planted a nuclear bomb in London.
In the end it was down to three people to save London, Ros and Lucas and the traitor to MI5 Connie James. In the end she paid the ultimate price for betrayal, sacrificing herself to save her former colleagues Ros and Lucas. This however wasn’t the only surprise in the episode, following a meet with the Russian intelligence services (the FSB). Harry is declared missing in action and was last seen in the boot of a car.
So after an eventful Series 7, what is there to expect in Series 8? Well lets find out.
The team is in a state of panic about Harry’s kidnapping by the FSB agent Viktor Sarkisian. Their worst fears are confirmed to them when the Sacred Army of Righteous Vengeance (SARV) posts footage of Harry’s execution on the Internet. Knowing that Harry is to smart to have been killed, Ros refuses to believe his death and leads Lucas and the team on a mission to find him.
When there biggest lead Sarkisian’s turns up dead, it seems they’ve lost their strongest lead. Ros sends Lucas to try and get some information from new character, CIA liaison officer Sarah Caulfield but after lots of flirting between the pair, it appears she can’t help him.
However, help arrives from a very unexpected source when former team member Ruth Evershed returns from the dead and back to the grid, fearing for her life. Ruth reveals to the team that Harry once thwarted a clandestine operation to smuggle weapons-grade uranium into Iraq, and only he and Ruth know its true whereabouts. Now a group of rogue intelligence officers want it back and they don’t care who they have to kill to get it. When Ruth and her family are kidnapped, the race is on for Section D to not only find them before they are killed, but also to discover whether Harry is still alive.
