britawardIts coming up to that time of year again when we celebrate the best in British Music. Its the lovely Brit Awards. So who’s up for the most gongs then? . Well Coldplay and Duffy led the way with four nods apiece. Both acts were shortlisted for the British Single and British Album prizes, with Coldplay also receiving nominations for British Group and British Live Act. Duffy was also nominated for best single with the annoying song Mercy, also best female solo artist and best breakthrough act.

Adele, Scouting For Girls and Elbow have each been nominated for three awards, new comers The Ting Tings and Estelle have been shortlisted for two. After a decade and a half of relative obscurity, Elbow the Mancunian band that hit the headlines in 2008 when their album The Seldom Seen Kid won the Mercury Prize. They are now up for three Brits – best group, best album and best live act.

Girls Aloud also received a pair of nominations – they got Best British Group and British Single – with Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke and the X Factor finalists among the competition in the Best British Single category.

In the international categories, five acts picked up a pair of nominations: Kings of Leon , The Killers, Fleet Foxes, MGMT and AC/DC. International Male gong is between Jay-Z and Kanye West, while Pink, Katy Perry and the very bouncy Beyoncé will compete for the Best International Female.

Although they haven’t released a single in donkeys, The Pet Shop Boys will take home the Outstanding Contribution to Music prize at this year’s Brit Awards, and Florence & The Machine have been named Critics Choice .

This year Music fans can vote for their favourite British single, live act and breakthrough act from the shortlists. The best British single will be finally decided on awards night by a live telephone vote. This years Brits will be held at London’s Earls Court on February 18.
